The 1-in-10 rule

Dearest readers,

If it's never crossed your mind that the world is filled with walking trash bags with legs, then you haven't lived long enough.

A recent exposure allowed me to the think about the rules and regulations that are stamped in the fine print of dating in the modern world. Or maybe watching the rather absurd, yet logical rom-com titled "What's your number?" sparked the question. (Excellent movie BTW, would definitely recommend.)

Back in high school I created the iconic but accurate rule of the 1-in-10. Some may disagree, and as my mother said - It's okay to be wrong, but this rule peaked for most teenagers and the stats never lie. The 1-in-10 basically refers to every 10 guys you date. You'll date a few stoners, pretentious trust funds, lazy musicians and even heavy politicians, but one of those 10 are bound to be a good guy. Now whether you call the shots and stir the relationship Fate has oh so willingly given you to the ground, is your own choice. Or if it's not your choice, and timing just isn't right then you'll have to wait for the next one to come around.

The rule isn't that black and white though, and like dating, everyone has different experiences. You could be dating a good guy at number 7, and another one at number 15. The key factor still lies that the system is split up in 10 numbers every time. If you date a nice guy at #4, chances are you'll go through at least 6 douchebags before finding someone that polite again. As Gigi from the ICONIC late 2000's rom-com "He's just not that into you" (Would also recommend, 100%) stated, for every rule there's an exception. Which begs the question, are you the exception? Is your boyfriend that nice, is he just so polite? Or is he just nice in comparison to the pile of awful men you've dated in the past?

You might be wondering if the rule works in your favor, but that's not the question you should be asking. Rather, when does the rule stop working? As for the answer, you'll be the first I tell when I find out. Remember readers, boys should consist of more than broad shoulders, a shiny smile and the ability to play guitar to be considered nice.

All my love,

The relationship expert.
